description: In September 2008 Barcelona-based anticapitalist Enric Duran announced he had
expropriated 492,000 euros by taking out loans he never intended to pay back.
Announced through the publication of 200,000 free newspapers, the action helped
launch "Podem" (We Can), a region-wide campaign promoting alternatives to capitalism
that combines the tradition of Catlan anarchism, the theory of “de-growth”, and the
alternative currency movement. One of the group's English translators will share
some insights from a recent trip of Catalonia.
This project was supported by a grant from the Institute for Anarchist Studies;
donations to support future radical scholarship will accepted.
